Our Clergy

The Rev. LouAnn Pickering, Rector

As a child, LouAnn Pickering always knew two things – that she loved the mysterious, magical feeling of worshipping in church, and that little girls like her did not grow up to be priests.

Now that she is Rector at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church, Mother LouAnn likes to tell the story of how her belief that ordination was an impossible dream changed in a dazzling moment of recognition of God’s presence.

In 1985 Mtr. LouAnn became director of religious education in the Lower School at Oregon Episcopal School. Students, families and those who worked with her soon affirmed the vocation to priesthood that she had felt so long ago. She was ordained priest in 1997. In 2004, she began her ministry at St. Gabriel’s as part time Vicar, working 50% for St. Gabe’s and 50% OES. In July of 2007 she began serving St. Gabriel’s as full time Vicar, becoming Rector in 2016.

The Rev. Gregory Rainey, Deacon

Deacon Greg assists Mother LouAnn, with a special emphasis on ministry to people experiencing marginalization, and is also focused on supporting the ministries of all members of St. Gabriel. Greg’s ministry in the world is in hospital clinical social work focused on cancer and palliative care patients and their families. His previous ministries include pastoral care, support for people who are unhoused or hungry, and visitation to people who are isolated, sick, or dying. Greg is also passionate about social justice and inequity, especially relating to mental health, race, gender, and LGBTQ identities. His MSW and Graduate Gerontology Certificate internships encompassed Veterans, cancer and palliative care patients, and hospice patients, as well as their loved ones. Finally, as a Coast Guard retiree and former Marine, Greg has a special love for fellow Veterans and their families.
