COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS

The Gabriel Center

The Gabriel Center of St. Gabriel Episcopal Church provides events and services to the surrounding community, focused on what is needed to live a centered life, to keep our balance, and to understand how to feed our deepest needs. Although some of our programs are on hold for now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are carrying on with any that can be offered safely and hope to resume all of our outreach and community programs as soon as we can do so safely.

Clothes for Kids Clothing Donations (formally The Clothes Closet)

Despite COVID-19 we are accepting used, laundered clothing and shoes for all sizes and ages (including adult sizes for high schoolers) that would be appropriate for children and youth to wear to school on behalf of students in the Beaverton School District. Underwear and socks donated should be new. Clothing is offered free of charge to needy families. We provide two large containers in front of the church where donations can be dropped off at any time. Westview High School Wildcat Pantry

St. Gabriel collects and donates food and sundries for Westview High School students, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Westview cannot accept donations at this time. We will let you know when this Outreach program can resume.

Portland Community College  Student Supplies

St. Gabriel collects and donates grooming and health care sundries and food for Portland Community College students, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PCC cannot accept donations at this time. We will let you know when this outreach program can resume.

First Fruits Community Garden

The mission of the Community Garden is to enable interested gardeners to grow fresh produce using sustainable means, and then sharing a portion of its bounty with those in need.

During the Covid-19 pandemic anyone is still welcome to rent and tend a garden plot and have fresh produce, herbs, and flowers to share with friends and family as long as you wear a mask and practice social distancing. Excess produce is offered to the Oregon Food Bank. Each spring a limited number of plots become available and you may apply for one by contacting our church office at stgabe@stgabrielonline.org or 503-645-0744.

Palm Sunday Community Egg Hunt

For many years St. Gabriel has hosted a free annual Community Egg Hunt for kids in the neighborhood on the Sunday before Easter Sunday, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic we don’t feel it is safe at this time. We hope to offer this fun event again in 2022.

Wonder Wednesday Storytime and Art Project

St. Gabriel hosts a free drop-in literacy event for young children and their parents or caregivers on summer Wednesdays from 10:45-11:45 am in our sanctuary, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic this program is on hold at this time. We hope to offer it again for summer 2022.

St. Gabriel Art Camp

St. Gabriel sponsors a non-profit summer Art Camp for kids in July where we explore storytelling and spirituality through visual arts, dance and movement, drama, and culture, along with ecology activities designed and presented by professional teachers and artists. Campers can be 3 years old with preschool experience through those entering 5th grade, with teen and college-age group leaders. Half and full day options are available, as well as scholarships. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are not taking registrations for summer 2021 at this time. We will make a decision whether or not we will offer Art Camp this year on March 15, 2021 and will post it here and on our Facebook page at facebook.com/stgabrielartcamp.
